‘I’ll fix the economy in two years’ — David Mark joins presidential race as he picks presidential form

Former Senate president David Mark has formally joined the presidential race in 2019 by picking the nomination form of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the party primaries scheduled for next month.

Accompanied by hundreds of his supporters to the PDP national secretariat Abuja on Tuesday, September 4, Mark promised to restructure Nigeria and fix the economy.

He stated that his military background is an added advantage to lead the country, adding that he will address the security challenges Nigeria is presently facing.

“In two years, if given the opportunity, we will turn the economy of this country round, we will solve these security problems, we will bring Nigerians together. The level of distrust in the government today has never been experienced in the history of this country.

“I have a very good military background and have been in politics since 1998. I think I have got the credentials to be able to do what I have promised my team,” Mark said while addressing party officials.

He also promised to restructure the country, a mission one of the leading aspirants of the party, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to embark on.

“Obviously there are priority areas and restructuring is one of them. I think the time has come to restructure this country,” he said. According to him, the huge number of presidential aspirants in the main opposition party means that “PDP is the choice part in the country.”

Mark, 70, will be contesting the position with Atiku, his successor and current Senate president, Bukola Saraki; Governors Aminu Tambuwal and Ibrahim Dankwambo, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Alhaji Sule Lamido, among others.
