Labour Party’s Olumide Oworu alleges that he & members of his team were attacked while campaigning in Surulere

Labour Party’s candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly Surulere Constituency 1, Olumide Oworu has taken to his social media platform to reveal that he was attacked alongside his team on Tuesday 14 March 2023, while trying to campaign at Iponri Surulere.

Olumide further wrote that a member of his team had been injured and the case reported at the Iponri police station. He also declared that he wasn’t deterred by the incident but had become more committed to seeing things through.

His tweet reads:

My team and I were attacked on Tuesday as we attempted to campaign at Iponri, Surulere. A member of my team was injured, but we are thankful the incident didn’t escalate past the level it was. The case has been reported at the Iponri police station.

I am not deterred by the incident. Instead I am more committed to seeing this through. We will pass through the wards in constituency 1 (Akinhanmi/Cole, Adeniran/Ogunsanya, Iponri Housing Estate/Eric Moore, Igbaja/Stadium, Shitta/Ogunlana Drive, Yaba/Ojuelegba). See you outside!

Olumide’s revelation of his attack comes a few days after the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for Lagos State Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour was attacked during campaign by thugs in Epe.

Olumide Oworu popularly known as “Tari Johnson” from his role in the Africa Magic Series “The Johnsons”, is contesting to replace former actor and incumbent lawmaker for Surulere constituency 1, Desmond Elliott.

Olumide is a strong contender for the incumbent lawmaker because, Desmond Elliott is the recipient of widespread trolling from netizens as a result of his perceived numerous misdeeds by Nigerian youths who have also vowed to kick the lawmaker out of office come Saturday 18 March 2023, the slated for the governorship and state assembly elections.
