Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Osuolale Akiolu endorses President Buhari for second term
Oba (king) of Lagos who is the traditional sovereign of Lagos on Saturday, August 4 called on Nigerians particularly Lagosians to ensure the return of President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and Mudashiru Obasa of the state House of Assembly during the 2019 general elections.
The king who has no official political power is sought as a counsel or sponsor by Nigerian politicians who seek support from various residents of Lagos.
He endorsed the trio in his palace when the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures paid him a courtesy visit in the course of their quarterly meeting in Lagos.
“They have done well. And going by their performances during the few years that they have been saddled with the leadership positions, they have shown to all and sundry that they can do more if given the opportunity again,” the monarch said.
The Lagos monarch further advised politicians to work for the interest and welfare of Nigerians.
“Politicians can only do this by settling their differences amicably. Politics is characterised by allignment and re-allignment of personnel but in doing this, politicians should not take actions or make utterances that can heat up the polity.
“We should ensure that we live in peace and harmony and that’s when the country can grow and develop. Through this, Nigerians will enjoy real dividends of democracy,” Oba Akiolu said.
Akiolu described President Muhammadu Buhari as a man who does not believe in acquiring wealth like some public officers. He further pleaded that Nigerians should allow peace reign in the country.
“God loves this country and we are very lucky. My appeal to you, my sons and daughters is that let peace return to this country. Nigeria is not going to break.
“If all of us will cooperate together, Nigeria will move forward. We are all one and we should regard ourselves as that. “If you watch the life of President Buhari, he is not materialistically minded like the other people. “Cooperate with the national government. I believe in the corporate existence of Nigeria,” Akiolu urged the speakers on the challenges facing Buhari’s administration.
