Popular CNN presenter, Anthony Bourdain commits suicide at the age of 61… Banky W reacts (PHOTOS)

Anthony Bourdain, a celebrated gifted storyteller and popular writer who took CNN viewers around the world in his series, Parts Unknown has died at the age of 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain’s death today and said the cause of death was suicide.

It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.

Bourdain who was also a world class chef was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series “Parts Unknown” when his close friend and French chef, Eric Ripert, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room on Friday morning.

Bourdain’s death happened, days after fashion designer Kate Spade hanged herself in an apparent suicide at her Manhattan apartment on Tuesday. Spade was found hanged by a scarf she allegedly tied to a doorknob, an NYPD source said.

Suicide is a growing problem in the United States. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a survey Thursday showing suicide rates increased by 25% across the United States over nearly two decades ending in 2016. Twenty-five states experienced a rise in suicides by more than 30%, the government report finds.

Nigerian singer, Banky W who met the gifted storyteller has mourned his death, reminiscing to the time they sat down together to talk.

Completely stunned by the news of Anthony Bourdain’s passing. Got to sit down with him before our interview, and he shared parts of his story. His rise to success was so inspirational that I’m having a very hard time reconciling that with this news. I pray that God gives his family the strength to bear this loss. I pray we all learn not to take this life for granted. I pray that his life inspires us to realize that we can turn things around and go for our dreams like he did. I pray his death teaches us to take better care of ourselves and others. Depression is very real. Sigh.
